Welcome to the third edition of our new e-newsletter, the Stringer’s Assistant! Ever since we merged with Tennis Industry magazine, we have had members ask for a more personal publication dedicated specifically towards our members. This is our response; a new monthly e-newsletter with a title that goes back to the beginning of the USRSA and our very first edition of what is now the Stringer’s Digest. We welcome any and all feedback, so please don’t hesitate to contact us with ideas for or comments regarding this new publication. We are committed to you, our members, and want to serve you the best way that we can, and we hope that you enjoy the first Stringer’s Assistant.
Stringer’s Digest Update
We would like to thank everyone for your continued patience with the 2018 version of the Stringer’s Digest. The books are printed and as we speak are en route to our facility. They should be arriving this week. As soon as we receive the books we will start shipping them out to everyone who has ordered one. Be on the lookout for your copy in the coming weeks!Playtesters Wanted!
We are looking for new, enthusiastic people to join our playtest team! Occasionally we receive strings from companies that want us to test a new string they are making. We send samples out to one of our playtest teams and they provide feedback on the string. All of the information gets compiled into a review in Tennis Industry magazine.Playtesters must be at least a 3.5 level player, able to test each string we send them for at least 15 hours, and provide meaningful feedback. Any type of string could be sent, so playtesters must be comfortable giving unbiased reviews of all types of string; polyester, nylon, etc. If you are interested in joining one of our playtest teams, please contact Nate at nate@racquettech.com.

New MRTs, CSs, and PRAs
Lance Taylor, MRT, Tyler, TX — Lance is very involved in tennis in his area; as a teaching professional, helping players with their equipment in the pro shop, officiating and running tournaments, and now as one of the few MRTs in the surrounding area. Like many other MRTs, he started out stringing while in high school in order to save some money. He would never have guessed the places it would take him. From soloing a $100k WTA Challenger to being a stringer at the Prince Innovation Center at Bollettieri’s IMG Academy, Lance has always enjoyed providing the best racquet services to all players from beginners to professionals.
Steve Bloomfield, MRT, Henfield, West Sussex, United Kingdom — Steve has always been an avid racquet sports player; he played competitive tennis and badminton at the county and collegiate level, as well as playing tennis in the German Bundesliga Div. 2 for a couple of years. After a 26 year career in banking, he retired four years ago and thought about what he might do next. His wife and two sons were competing in tennis and regularly breaking strings so Steve decided to start stringing in order to save money. He undertook a two-day course with Liam through the UKRSA and things went from there. Word quickly spread amongst players and parents and he now strings for all ages and abilities from total beginners to International players competing on the ITF tour. His small claim to fame is that one of his players completed at the AELTC Wimbledon last week (and won a match!). Steve loves getting to grips with different frame and string technologies and fully intends to continue his education in the finer arts of the stringing world!
Stringing Gadgets
We need your help! For as long as we have been playing tennis, people have tried to come up with gadgets to make the stringing process quicker and easier. We have recently been testing two new gadgets that are designed to do just that, and we want to compare these gadgets to any other gadget or tool you may have used in the past. Let us know anything you have tried, whether you bought it, made it, or found it, and what your experiences were with it. Send your gadgets in an email to nate@racquettech.com with the subject “Stringing Gadgets” and look for an article in a future issue of the Stringer’s Assistant and Tennis Industry magazine.USRSA Networks
Looking for an out of production frame or string? Need a grommet set and having no luck finding one from the manufacturer? The USRSA can help!We offer the Grommet Network(grommets@racquettech.com), the Racquets Networks(racquets@racquettech.com) and the String Network(strings@racquetttech.com).
At least twice a week we send out an email to all members of each network (as requests dictate) with a list of the products members are seeking. If you can help, just respond directly back. It is not only a great way to find what you need, it may also prove to be a good avenue to sell off some dead inventory that has been hanging around too long. One person’s dead inventory may another’s rescue!
USRSA Members are automatically enrolled in all three networks but you can call us to opt out of any one of the groups. Please be aware if you unsubscribe through Constant Contact (the service we use to send out the emails) you will automatically be unsubscribed from all our emails, including the newsletter and any networks you may have wanted to stay in.
We ask that you please help us out by providing a full description of the product you need, including the correct model name. Also, if you send in a request, please answer those that send you a response. You may get 5 responses and you take the first, but please, show the other four respect by letting them know that your need has been fulfilled.
Got Questions? We Have Answers!
If you have any questions about racquets, strings, stringing, or anything else related to the USRSA, let us know! Others probably have the same question, and even if they don’t, they might benefit by hearing the answer. Send your questions to nate@racquettech.comwith “Got Questions” in the subject line, and we will answer your questions in the next month’s newsletter.Classified Ads
