The Stringer’s Assistant — September 2018

Welcome to the fifth edition of our new e-newsletter, the Stringer’s Assistant! Ever since we merged with Tennis Industry magazine, we have had members ask for a more personal publication dedicated specifically towards our members. This is our response; a new monthly e-newsletter with a title that goes back to the beginning of the USRSA and our very first edition of what is now the Stringer’s Digest. We welcome any and all feedback, so please don’t hesitate to contact us with ideas for or comments regarding this new publication. We are committed to you, our members, and want to serve you the best way that we can, and we hope that you enjoy the Stringer’s Assistant.

New member benefit program!

USRSA Members to Qualify for 20% Commission Opportunity from Newly Re-Launched Snauwaert Brand!

As a member of the tennis community, you have probably heard that the legendary brand, Snauwaert, is poised to make its triumphant return to the US market!

To celebrate the brand’s return, USRSA members will now have the opportunity to become a Snauwaert Ambassador as well. By filling out a simple, online application at www.teamsnauwaert.com our members can receive a territory that corresponds to their current stringing business and the opportunity to receive a 20% commission for all retail sales. In addition, all USRSA members will have special access to the best Pro Level pricing for personal purchases on the entire Snauwaert line on the Team Snauwaert website.

All applications will be sent to Snauwaert for review and processing at the appropriate Ambassador level.

How to Access the Form:

Click the drop-down menu and select “USRSA APPLICATION”

In order to help market Snauwaert, we ask that every approved Ambassador submit a short bio and resume. Snauwaert will place these bios on the “Find an Expert” section of its global website, www.snauwaert.com. We are confident this will be a win-win endeavor for all.

Bob Patterson, USRSA Executive Director, commented, “We are proud to add this member-benefit for our USRSA members. Snauwaert is making it easy for our members to provide added value to their clients and receive a significant monetary reward in return.”

New MRTs, CSs, and PRAs

Johnson Chen, MRT, Chester, Cheshire, UK —Johnson is a clinical radiologist based in Chester, UK. He started stringing in 2007, on encouragement from his coach, after suffering a career-ending freak accident and leaving competitive badminton. He has since been involved in university and club badminton, on a more supportive background role. He has been interested in developing his tennis stringing skills, thus his motivation to obtain the USRSA MRT certification. Johnson hopes that this can be a great starting point to get more involved in the racquet sports world as a whole.

Bjorn Andersson, MRT, Oxelosund, Sodermanlands, Sweden —Björn runs a racket shop with racket service for tennis clubs and players in the area, both for club players and even higher-level competitive players. He got in touch with Liam Nolan at the UKRSA and has completed the courses there from the basic course, racket customizing, to the Master Racket Technician course. Has worked as stringer in competitions and it is something that he hopes to do more of in the future, both nationally and internationally. Bjorn always looks forward to learning new things and developing as stringer.

Mark Kohlberger, MRT, Toronto, ON, Canada

Andrew Cross, MRT, Toronto, ON, Canada

New MRTs, CSs, and PRAs

Javier Ronchietto, MRT, Corona, CA — Javier started stringing racquets when he moved toCorona from Santa Barbara, CA. He was unable to find quality restringing services so he decided to venture on his own to learn the art. From learning on his own racquets, he started providing stringing services to friends, and eventually to all players in his community. He strings for all local high schools and several D1 players from University of California Riverside. Additionally, Javier has strung for the Power Shares Series in Los Angeles where he’s provided stringing service for Andy Roddick, James Blake, Mark Philippoussis, Mardy Fish, Jim Courier, and Michael Chang.

Laurent Roberge Charbonneau, CS, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Nolan Fitzgerald, MRT, Victoria, BC, Canada

Stringing Gadgets

We need your help! For as long as we have been playing tennis, people have tried to come up with gadgets to make the stringing process quicker and easier. We have recently been testing two new gadgets that are designed to do just that, and we want to compare these gadgets to any other gadget or tool you may have used in the past. Let us know anything you have tried, whether you bought it, made it, or found it, and what your experiences were with it. Send your gadgets in an email to nate@racquettech.com with the subject “Stringing Gadgets” and look for an article in a future issue of the Stringer’s Assistant and Tennis Industry magazine.

USRSA Networks

Looking for an out of production frame or string? Need a grommet set and having no luck finding one from the manufacturer? The USRSA can help!

We offer the Grommet Network (grommets@racquettech.com), the Racquets Networks (racquets@racquettech.com) and the String Network (strings@racquetttech.com).

At least twice a week we send out an email to all members of each network (as requests dictate) with a list of the products members are seeking. If you can help, just respond directly back. It is not only a great way to find what you need, it may also prove to be a good avenue to sell off some dead inventory that has been hanging around too long. One person’s dead inventory may another’s rescue!

USRSA Members are automatically enrolled in all three networks but you can call us to opt out of anyone of the groups. Please be aware if you unsubscribe through Constant Contact (the service we use to send out the emails) you will automatically be unsubscribed from all our emails, including the newsletter and any networks you may have wanted to stay in.

We ask that you please help us out by providing a full description of the product you need, including the correct model name. Also, if you send in a request, please answer those that send you a response. You may get five responses and you take the first, but please, show the other four respect by letting them know that your need has been fulfilled.

Got Questions? We Have Answers!

If you have any questions about racquets, strings, stringing, or anything else related to the USRSA, let us know! Others probably have the same question, and even if they don’t, they might benefit by hearing the answer. Send your questions to nate@racquettech.com with “Got Questions” in the subject line, and we will answer your questions in the next month’s newsletter.

Classified Ads

Do you have excess inventory that may prove to be a great deal for another dealer? Or, you have a stringing machine you would like to sell? USRSA members can send us an email to: Nate@RacquetTech.com and list Classified ad in the Subject line … We will spread the word in an upcoming newsletter to other members.
